An election was held for the Lagan Valley assembly constituency on 5 May 2016.

The UUP gained one seat at the expense of the DUP, and regained a second seat they had lost by the defection of Basil McCrea to NI21. Overall, three DUP MLAs were elected, two UUP MLAs, and one MLA for Alliance.
